Dental Crowns Mackay

Prosthodontics is the part of dentistry involving the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation, and maintenance of the function, aesthetics, and health of patients associated with missing teeth, deficient (damaged or heavily filled) teeth, using biocompatible substitutes. It can range from the restoration of a single tooth with a crown or onlay, to the rehabilitation of an entire mouth with crowns, implants, bridges and/or dentures. It is an area of particular interest for Dr Martin Cahill, and he has done further study in the area gaining a Graduate Diploma from King’s College in London in this field. He and others at the practice have been to many courses in this field to learn from the best people in the world, so that we can provide the highest quality service.

All Ceramic Restorations

Dental crowns, inlays and onlays, and veneers are made from the highest quality dental ceramics. They are bonded to the tooth to provide the most durable, aesthetic restoration possible.

Dental crowns, inlays and onlays are the best treatment for teeth which have large fillings or have broken. The bonded ceramic is stronger and much more durable than a large conventional filling. The bonding process can also help reinforce the tooth and reduce the risk of cracking or further damage to the tooth.

Dental crowns and veneers can be used to alter the shape and/or colour of your teeth. This can be useful for people with heavily discoloured or worn teeth.

All these treatments require some preparation or reduction of the tooth. The art and science of prosthodontics is choosing the option that will minimize this preparation, while still giving the best results in terms of strength and aesthetics.

Missing Teeth

Missing teeth can be replaced with:

  • Partial dentures
  • Bridges (ceramic teeth which are bonded to teeth on either side)
  • Implants

We are able to provide all these options at Plaza dental, however all of these options have advantages and disadvantages, and your dentist will be able to discuss this in more detail with you so you can determine what suits you best.
